before we get things going, one really important thing not to be missed: these are the last days of the dream-like fantasy that is toren in noord! before the tower and the accompanying cafe will be transformed into a major cultural hub featuring a club, restaurant, a revolving platform, offices for creatives etc. (yes, this will be a’dam) these are your last chances to experience the place in its raw, unmolded form…

that being said, let’s have a look at this week’s schedule, which is filling up quickly already…

• TODAY: cloud nothings and cheatahs at melkweg – after yesterday’s double-whammy of jagwar ma and roosevelt at paradiso, this promises to be another great night for indierocknroll!

• TUESDAY: a big exhibition opening for several young artists at de ateliers, on from 5pm through 7pm – and the only chance to see the artworks for free! (facebook event)i will also check out coffee place berry and – finally – the re-design of the permanent “de atlassen” exhibition at het scheepvartmuseum. more on both soon!

• WEDNESDAY: more arts – namely an exhibition opening at hôtel droog, edition #7 of their design column series; topic: wasted matter. (facebook event)i will stop by only briefly so that i can participate in the old amsterdam food tour as well. it takes you right through the red-light district, shedding light on a different aspect of this ill-communicated, actually quite interesting part of town. really looking forward to this!therefore i am probably going to miss out on the official opening of kunstvlaai in amstelpark (facebook event) – what a shame!there will also be talks with white label coffee about bringing some free coffee to the student hotel. so, dear residents, stay tuned for more on that!

• THURSDAY: (still pretty) new cafe rue de sèvres on jan van galenstraat!

• FRIDAY: any suggestions?

• SATURDAY: a good time to in west: first, mercatormarkt takes over the usually dull mercatorplein (10am through 5pm). and in the evening of course the student hotel will hold its huge sziget festival-pre-party (9pm til you drop – facebook event)!
