hidden in plain sight, with its back to the magistrale leading to münster’s central train station within minutes and its windows to the green promenade circling the city’s historical and culturally rich center, the mauritzhof sits in the perfect spot to spend an inspirational weekend at. it’s also terrifically stylish, its interior devoted to monochrome minimalism, its walls hung with often xxl-sized black&white photos taken by oculus co-founder berthold socha – who also kept covering münster’s famous modern art diecenale skulptur projekte (which we visited eight years ago for tom burr’s exhibition “surplus of myself”). but there’s color at mauritzhof, too, and plenty of it – at its restaurant reckos. the kitchen focuses on entree-sized dishes made from seasonal ingredients and rightfully prides itself of offering a separate vegetarian menu. these are our favorite shots from mauritzhof – and we obviously made sure to include one of the reckos’s colorful plates as well …
