one of the highlights of the latest edition of münster’s skulptur projekte, tom burr’s surplus of myself (on display at westfälischer kunstverein through october 1) is a reflection on interplay and conflicts of interest of the public and the private realms, a clever meta-piece accentuating the city-wide open air arts festival’s premise. playing off cosima von bonin’s stunning comment on henry moore’s the archer (the complete artistic position is kind of complex indeed), the new haven-based artist’s exhibition questions definitions of space and purpose, art and accident. in its most masterful aspect, it is also a lot of fun.
